Medical (System Redundancy)

Medical isn’t one of the 10Cs—but it touches all of them.
A proper medical kit is built on redundancy. It overlaps critical materials already found throughout the system: cotton bandage and wound packing, water treatment, tourniquet, and cloth tape. These aren’t extras—they’re safeguards for the moments when failure compounds.
Medical kits are often overlooked because people plan for success, not interruption. But bleeding, hypothermia, and dehydration don’t care how experienced you are. Those are the scenarios where trips end quietly—and permanently. Even thru hikers need to take this seriously. This is the difference between self-recovery and not coming home to tell the story.
